HIP Projects > Living Strong, Living Well

The Living Strong Living Well Program is a small group program designed for adult cancer survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. Our goal is to help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes, and improving energy levels and self esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a part of their recovery and as a way of life.

To register and for more information, see the website at http://lslw.stanford.edu or call Joyce Hanna (650) 725-5014.

WHAT

The Living Strong Living Well Program is an twelve-week strength and fitness training program for patients with cancer who have completed their therapy. It is sponsored by the Health Improvement Program and is run in nine YMCAs from San Mateo to San Jose, and two YMCAs outside of California. Certified fitness instructors trained in supportive cancer care will work out personalized programs for participants.
