The Stanford Weight Management for Women program,

Personalized
Incorporates stress reducing strategies
Promotes behavior change
Quantitative measurement of health factors
Promotes self-efficacy
Stanford Health Coach led program
Peer support
Our Weight Management for Women program consists of these key components:
1. Initial Assessments
Health questionnaires, including assessment of stress/anxiety, plus a 1-hour Health
& Fitness Assessment (to measure cholesterol ratio, blood pressure, body mass
index, resting and active heart rate, hip-to-waist ratio, aerobic fitness and
flexibility).
2. Consultation with Stanford Health Coach
Private 1-hour meeting to review the results of the initial health assessments
and begin establishing personal goals and explore best options for individual
success.
3. Classes (10 meetings over five months)
Small group classes, led by a Stanford Health Coach, meet twice per month (over
five months), helping each member with goal definition, monitoring and support.
In addition, each session features a different "healthy lifestyle" topic,
including: readiness for behavior change; setting reachable short-term goals;
building a support network; non-hunger eating; rewarding yourself; dealing with
setbacks; motivation techniques; ambivalence; eating out; physical activity and
exercise; nutrition; etc..
4. Weight Management for Women
This four month program is designed to help women gradually change life-long habits
related to nutrition, physical activity, weight management, and stress management.
The program consists of an online health assessment, fitness assessment, one individual
meeting with a health coach, and small group sessions. In the group sessions,
participants set a short-term goal that they work on between sessions. They discuss
their progress, obstacles, and strategies with one another. The facilitators also
lead a discussion on a topic related either to behavioral science (e.g., staying
motivated, building a support network), or on a topic more directly related to
weight loss (e.g., non-hunger). The program does not provide participants
with a diet or exercise plan. Rather, our philosophy is that participants come
up with their own goals, with input from the facilitators and other group members.
